“Create with the heart; build with the mind” - Criss Jami
This quote illustrates our journey as designers quite nicely.
Since childhood, we create our own little stories, characters and games. And as we grow older, we learn the techniques to effectively communicate our ideas through good design. Both are necessary in order to make something that resonates with others. Yet as we become older, we’re oftentimes more reserved when it comes to sharing what we’ve made with others.
If I were to add to this quote in any meaningful way, I’d say “share with joy”. Because sharing my creations was something that I always did so easily as a child. Not because I was proud, but because I genuinely found joy in others taking part in what I had made. And it’s important to remember the joy that’s still within us, beneath fears of inadequacy, rejection or - worst of all - apathy.
My name is Daniel Åkerman, also known as Hombre de Mundo.
I want to share the things that I’ve built, either through years of experience or through learning something new; the things I’ve created with passion and creativity, and do so with joy.
Every creation is an achievement, no matter how small.
